Dealing with Bed Bugs? Expert Extermination Services Across Toronto and the GTA

Quality Affordable Pest Control is your number one solution for professional bed bug removal throughout Ontario’s capital and surrounding areas.

What are Bed Bugs?

Bed bugs are small, wingless, parasitic insects that feed on the blood of humans and animals. These pests are typically found near sleeping areas, hence their name. Although they cannot fly or jump, they are adept climbers and can easily move from room to room within a dwelling.

Bed bugs are primarily nocturnal, emerging from their hiding places during the night to feed on their unsuspecting hosts. Their bites are often painless at first, but they can later cause itchy welts and skin irritation. While bed bugs are not known to transmit diseases, their presence can cause significant distress and anxiety, and their bites can lead to secondary infections from scratching.

Bed Bug Lifecycle

The lifecycle of a bed bug is relatively short; they mature in approximately 35 days and have a lifespan of seven to 12 months. However, in that time, a female bed bug can lay upwards of 5 eggs per day, which hatch in less than two weeks. That means if you have a bed bug problem, it will quickly become an infestation.

Signs of an Infestation

Bed bugs are resilient and adaptable pests that can thrive in various environments. While they are small and sometimes hard to detect, there are signs you can look for to determine if you have an infestation.

  • Red, rusty, or black marks on bed sheets
  • Overwhelming musty odour
  • Small, reddish brown shapes the size of apple seeds

Signs You May Have a Bed Bug Infestation

Spotting bed bug activity early means faster, more effective professional treatment. Our experienced technicians regularly find evidence that homeowners miss - like tiny rust-colored stains on pillowcases or small brown spots along mattress seams. These pests also produce a distinctive sweet, musty odor that becomes more noticeable as populations grow.

Many clients call us for bed bug removal after discovering unexplained bite patterns on their skin, typically appearing in clusters or straight lines on exposed areas. However, not everyone reacts to bed bug bites the same way, which is why professional identification is crucial. Our trained bed bugs exterminator knows exactly where to look and what signs indicate an active infestation versus old evidence. We can also assist with roach control in Toronto.

How We Remove Bed Bugs

1. Inspection

When you call us because you suspect you have bedbugs, we perform widespread surveillance of your home or business, including beds, linens, and furniture. Our expert exterminators know all the signs and places to check for these small pests. Once we determine the extent of the infestation, we provide critical next steps before treatment can occur.

2. Treatment

Treatment is two-fold. Our team will leave you with a checklist to ensure that the space is fully ready for our professional services when we return. Here are the general guidelines we provide before treatment:

  • 1. Get rid of clutter to reduce places where bedbugs can hide. Bag and discard any items that you no longer use in outdoor garbage bins.
  • 2. Strip your beds, then place all bedding, spreadsheets, comforters, and pillows in plastic bags to wash.
  • 3. Remove any plastic covers from mattresses or box springs. Plastic covers do not protect mattresses or box springs from bed bug infestations.
  • 4. Remove clothing and other belongings from all drawers, night tables, closets, and similar storage areas and place them in plastic bags to wash.
  • 5. Remove drapery from bedrooms. Also, remove any loose clothing or garments found outside of dressers, under beds or in closets and put them in plastic bags to wash. Remove paintings, pictures, posters and mirrors from bedroom walls.
  • 6. Throw away any items that were stored under the bed or leave them in place for the bed bug extermination treatment.
  • 7. Aquariums may remain in place if the filtrations and aeration systems are turned off for at least six hours and the tank is adequately covered.

When we return, we employ the use of a revolutionary new treatment that outperforms heat or other chemical treatments.

Revolutionary New Treatment

Aprehend® is a REVOLUTIONARY fungal biopesticide designed to kill bed bugs and prevent bed bug infestations. Quality affordable Pest Control is one of the first pest control companies using this non-toxic bed bug treatment technology in Canada. It safely, effectively, and more quickly eliminates bed bugs compared to heat and chemical treatments while preventing re-infestation in homes and businesses.

Aprehend® uses natural Beauveria bassiana fungal spores, which bed bugs pick up and carry back to their harborage or nesting areas. These fungal spores are easily transferred to other bed bugs. All bed bugs that encounter the spores die within 10 days.

What makes Aprehend® different from every other bed bug treatment is its long-lasting residual – it remains active for up to 3 months! This ensures that serious infestations are dealt with, and that any new bed bugs introduced in a home or business in the 3 months following treatment will pick up the spores and die before establishing an infestation.

3. Post-Treatment Process

During our bed bug extermination process, all occupants, including pets, must leave the unit and not enter for a minimum of 4 to 6 hours after the bed bug exterminator leaves. During this time, we recommend proceeding with laundry at a local laundromat or other professional laundering service. Some things to keep in mind:

  • ⬤ It is essential to empty all laundry bags directly into the washing machine and wash items in a hot water cycle.
  • ⬤ Immediately dispose of used plastic bags into outdoor garbage bins.
  • ⬤ Some items that cannot be washed can be successfully disinfected using the dryer. For example, duffel bags, pocketbooks, backpacks, stuffed animals and other soft items.
4. Ongoing Monitoring

Our job doesn’t end once the initial treatment is complete. Bed bugs are persistent, and effective control means staying a step ahead—even after extermination. That’s why we emphasize ongoing monitoring as a critical part of our bed bug control strategy.

Following treatment, our technicians will recommend a tailored monitoring plan that may include discreet visual inspections, interceptors placed under bed legs, or mattress encasements to prevent re-infestation. These tools help us catch any lingering activity early—before it becomes a problem.

Health Risks and Concerns of Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are not known carriers of diseases. However, that doesn’t mean their presence isn’t dangerous to your health. Their bites can cause irritation, and some individuals are allergic to these bites, meaning their symptoms will be heightened and could be life-threatening.

Like any insect bite, bed bug bites are itchy. Scratching could lead to a secondary infection, blisters, or worsening symptoms.

Further, the presence of bed bugs causes stress and anxiety for many, leading them to feel uncomfortable in their own home. In a business, the existence of bed bugs will be damaging to its reputation and thus hurt profits.

How to Prevent Bed Bugs

While no one intentionally brings bed bugs into their home or business, it’s important to know the ways to prevent an infestation from happening.

  • Reduce clutter: Avoid stacks of papers, piles of clothes, or otherwise cluttered areas. Bed bugs hide in these areas, so reducing where they could reside is crucial.
  • Regularly clean and wash bedding: Wash your bedsheets in hot water and used the heavy dry cycle on your dryer to get rid of bed bugs and potential eggs.
  • Take precautions with secondhand items: Furniture, toys, or even artwork could have bed bugs hiding inside. Anytime you buy something second-hand, steam clean and check for bed bugs before bringing it into your home.
  • Protect yourself while travelling: Before unpacking on a trip, inspect the hotel room for signs of bed bugs. Place your luggage on the dressers rather than the floor. Pack clothes in sealable plastic bags to protect them. When you get home, thoroughly check your linens and suitcases for signs of bed bugs before putting anything away.
